I started out volunteering at my college, tutoring Spanish and assisting students with academic papers. In 2018, I joined an indie publisher as an editor and quickly moved up to the position of publishing director. Now, I oversee many aspects of their publishing team, including the romance division of their webcomic department.
I chose to name my business "tangcu" using the Mandarin word (糖醋) for "sweet-and-sour"—pronounced "tahng-tsoo" or /tʰɑŋ³⁵ t͡sʰu⁵¹/ in Sinological IPA.
It's one of my favorite Mandarin words and one of my favorite flavors, but the word has a much deeper meaning. It represents the fun aspects of crafting a story (the sweet), as well as the difficult ones (the sour). When done properly, these two elements can make a wonderful tale for readers to enjoy.
